The concept is great, but unfortunately, the speaker quality is not. This could be a very helpful product for us babyboomers who listened to a little too much LOUD rock and roll! We bought this and put it behind the couch and YES, it does help in understanding the dialog but the speaker has a very anoying hiss all the time and the speaker quality is really not good at all. I’d be willing to pay more money if necessary to get better quality audio because, as I said, the concept is great and it really does help with understanding dialog without having to have the tv volume blaring, but I’m not sure we’ll continue to use it just because of the anoying hissing of the speaker. Overall, a $100 disappointment.

By the way, description says “rich brown” but it is definitely BLACK.

I purchased this for my 87 yr old father who is in a retirement community and has a new large screen LCD TV. I had reservations because of the first reviewer’s problem but the speaker and transmitter work just fine with the “audio out” port. The unit provides more clear voice representation and better sound quality than the TV turned up loudly. With the TV Ears speaker on the table next to him he doesn’t need the volume up so loud that it disturbs neighbors. It is a bit pricey even at $100 ($169 on TV Ears website, $118 on Ebay) but it is worth it. Dad likes turning the sound down manually with the volume dial rather than trying to find the volume down button on the remote (way too many buttons). Overall a great purchase which is doing exactly what I bought it for.

This worked terrific on my new Vizio LCD TV and we love it. Used the Audio out ports without a problem. It even works over 30 feet away. We found that the IR bounces well off the walls and when we use in a large space we face the back of the unit to the TV. We can lower the volume to nearly nothing on the TV and the speaker still works but when we mute the TV, the system mutes as well.

Important to understand that this product does not work with Digital Audio Out, just analog. Product is completely useless with the newer digital televisions. Also realize that the speaker must be in line of sight of transmitter as it works with infra red signals. Did not see this on any of the product information online. It is clearly printed on the paperwork enclosed in the speaker itself.
